Lauren Brant

Picture
Lauren began her studies as a pupil on the Special Music Course at Pimlico School in London, where she was awarded the Kathleen Mitchell Award.  She then went on to read music at Birmingham University and completed her MA at University College London.  Since graduating Lauren has studied with eminent recorder players and holds her LRSM in performance on the recorder.

Lauren is passionate about musical education, and has a growing reputation for her creative and innovative music teaching.  Her work as director of the Dulwich Hamlet Junior School Fusion Ensemble has resulted in several awards for Innovation from Music for Youth as well as invitations to perform at the School's Prom and Primary Proms at the Royal Albert Hall.  Their performance at the RAH was widely praised:
It takes a lot to get up and perform at the Royal Albert Hall, even with a nicely printed score and a full geography of the work in front of you. What an achievement then for teacher Lauren Brant to lead the pupils of the Dulwich Hamlet Junior School Fusion Ensemble (aged 10-11) in the score-less, semi-improvised Scandinavian Sounds, bringing together tuned percussion and conventional instruments for a Peer Gynt-inspired sonic tapestry with only her cues to guide them. The result was a genuinely unexpected atmospheric delight...

She has worked on a number of exciting music education projects with LSO Discovery, Spitalfields Music, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra, Handel & Hendrix in London and the Wigmore Hall.

Lauren is a keen traveller and loves to encounter new music on her travels.  She has taught music in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, had music lessons in Cuba, and led an exciting musical project in Bolivia.  In Bolivia, Lauren explored Andean music, and worked with blind recorder students in a project which successfully culminated in performances on Bolivian national television.
